Too often, when people need a website of their own, they think about all the colors, images, and bling they can cram onto it. But let me ask you this: when you go to someone else’s website, what are you looking for?

Information.

Ask yourself this: would you rather browse an attractively designed, easy to navigate, information-at-your-fingertips website, or a flash-loaded, mystery-meat navigation, confusing jumble of graphical eye candy?

Unfortunately, many designers are more interested in building bloated sites (that they can charge an arm and a leg for) that look really nice (in their portfolio), but don’t take into account the needs and preferences of your patrons.

What Do You Need In A Website, Then?

• a way to present your information clearly and simply so your patrons can benefit from what you have to offer
• an attractive, aesthetically-pleasing, clean, simple, easy to navigate design
• strong, dependable, and robust architecture (think of a house; would you want a pieced-together shack of sticks, or one with a proven internal foundation that can weather whatever comes its way?)
• updatable, easy to change, and has room to grow as you do

And, you’ve also seen too many cookie-cutter websites that are as ineffectual as they are ugly. Your website needs to be customizable, so it reflects your spirit and message. With that in mind, I’ve crafted two package options for creating your ideal website.

Web Design Packages

Silver

A good choice if you’re just starting out; you need the simplest of functions, only a few pages of content, and a way for people to get in touch with you and/or sign up for your newsletter list. With the Silver package, you choose from a set of pre-designed templates that will be filled with your content, and everything you need to be ready to go is handled for you.

Gold

You want your website to reflect your passion, and so you need it to be built from the ground up with your unique needs in mind. A fully integrated blog, newsletter signups, RSS feeds, contact forms, custom color schemes, navigation, and more… whatever you need to showcase your business, it’s here.

Estimated Costs

Every design is unique, and it makes it hard to talk in absolutes. Really hard. For the Silver package, however, it’s pretty straightforward: US$1800. For the Gold package, though, because there’s so much flexibility, customization, and add-ons available, giving fixed numbers might be a little misleading. So, as a ballpark number to get us started (even though I shudder slightly to do this), let’s start with US$2750.
